There are at least two stories behind 'Sweet Caroline': one is that Neil Diamond wrote it about his second wife, Marcia Murphey, but chose the name 'Caroline' to fit the rhyme; another is that it was written about Caroline Kennedy whose picture he had seen in 1960s. Cracklin' Rosie, make me a smile Girl, if it lasts for an hour, that's all right Cus We got all night to set the world right Find us a dream that don't ask no questions Yeah Oh, I love my Rosie child You got the way to make me happy You and me we go in style Cracklin' Rose, You're a store-bought woman But you make me sing like a guitar hummin'. The original record is played in C# and has a key change to D approximately two thirds of the way through.
The best thing to do is play it in C with a capo at the first fret. Conveniently, the music stops just before the key change, thereby allowing you to move your capo to the second fret (and still playing in C).
